How to Use Pip Calculator

To use this forex pip calculator, follow these 5 steps:

1

Select a Currency Pair

Pick any of the 50+ supported currency pairs from the dropdown. The forex pip calculator supports 7 major pairs (EUR/USD, GBP/USD, USD/JPY, USD/CHF, AUD/USD, USD/CAD, NZD/USD), 20+ minor pairs, exotic pairs, and metals including gold (XAU/USD) and silver (XAG/USD).

2

Choose Account Type and Trade Direction

Select Standard or Cent account type. A standard account uses regular lot sizes where 1 standard lot equals 100,000 units. A cent account uses cent lots where 1 lot equals 1,000 units. Then pick your trade direction: Buy (Long) or Sell (Short).

3

Set the Lot Size

Pick a preset lot size (0.01, 0.05, 0.1, 0.25, 0.5, 1, 2, 5, or 10 lots) or type a custom value. Standard lot = 100,000 units, mini lot = 10,000 units (0.1), micro lot = 1,000 units (0.01).

What is a Pip in Forex Trading?

A pip (Percentage in Point) is the smallest standard unit of price movement in a currency pair. For most forex pairs, 1 pip equals 0.0001 (the fourth decimal place). For JPY-based pairs like USD/JPY or EUR/JPY, 1 pip equals 0.01 (the second decimal place).

The pip is the standard measurement traders use to track price changes, calculate profit and loss, and set stop loss and take profit levels. A pipette is 1/10th of a pip — 0.00001 for standard pairs and 0.001 for JPY pairs.

What is Forex Pip Calculator?

A forex pip calculator is a trading tool that converts pip movements into monetary values based on the currency pair, lot size, and account currency. The pip calculator takes 3 inputs — currency pair, lot size, and exchange rate — and outputs the dollar value of each pip movement.

Forex traders use the pip calculator to determine potential profit or loss before entering a trade. A trader with 1 standard lot (100,000 units) on EUR/USD gains or loses $10 per pip. The same trader with a micro lot (0.01 lot, or 1,000 units) gains or loses $0.10 per pip.

This online forex pip calculator runs entirely in your browser. No data leaves your device. No account signup required. The pip value calculation uses JavaScript locally, which means results appear with zero server delays.

Why Use the Forex Pip Calculator?

There are 4 main reasons to use a forex pip calculator before every trade:

Accurate Position Sizing

Calculate the exact lot size for any risk percentage. A trader risking 1% of a $10,000 account ($100) on a 50-pip stop loss needs a pip value of $2.00 — that equals 0.2 standard lots on EUR/USD.

Time-saving Tool

Manual pip value calculation involves pip size, exchange rate, lot size, and account currency. The forex pip calculator completes this in under 1 second. A manual calculation takes 2-3 minutes per pair.

Enhanced Risk Management

See the exact dollar amount at risk before entering any trade. A 30-pip stop loss on 0.5 lot GBP/USD costs $150. Risk management decisions become concrete with the pip calculator.

Learning Tool

New forex traders learn how lot sizes, pip values, and currency pairs connect. The calculator breaks down each trade into visible components: pip value per lot, total pip movement, and profit or loss in dollars.

Forex Pip Cost

Forex pip cost is the dollar amount a trader pays or gains per 1-pip movement, based on lot size and currency pair. Pip cost and pip value mean the same thing — the monetary impact of a 1-pip change in price.

Pip cost stays fixed at $10 per standard lot for pairs where USD is the quote currency (EUR/USD, GBP/USD). For cross pairs and exotic pairs, pip cost fluctuates with the exchange rate.

Forex Pip Converter

A forex pip converter translates pip values from one account currency to another. A trader using a GBP-denominated account to trade EUR/USD must convert the pip value from USD to GBP.

The conversion formula: Pip Value in Account Currency = Pip Value in Quote Currency ÷ Account Currency Exchange Rate. For a 1 standard lot EUR/USD trade, pip value is $10.00 USD. A GBP account holder at GBP/USD rate of 1.2700 gets £7.87 per pip ($10 ÷ 1.2700).

This pip calculator displays all values in USD. Traders with non-USD accounts divide the displayed pip value by the exchange rate between USD and the account currency.

Forex Pip Value Table

The forex pip value table shows the dollar value per pip for different lot sizes across major currency pairs. Use this table as a quick reference for position sizing and risk management.

XAU/USD0.01$0.001$0.01$0.10$1.00

Pip values marked with ≈ are approximate and change with the exchange rate. Pairs with USD as the quote currency (EUR/USD, GBP/USD) have fixed pip values.

Forex Pip Counter

A forex pip counter measures the number of pips between two price levels. The pip count formula: Pips = (Exit Price − Entry Price) ÷ Pip Size. For a buy trade on EUR/USD from 1.09050 to 1.09350: Pips = (1.09350 − 1.09050) ÷ 0.0001 = 30 pips.

For sell trades, the formula reverses: Pips = (Entry Price − Exit Price) ÷ Pip Size. A sell on GBP/USD from 1.27500 to 1.27000: Pips = (1.27500 − 1.27000) ÷ 0.0001 = 50 pips.

Forex Pip Value Chart

A forex pip value chart displays how pip values scale across lot sizes for each currency pair. All pairs with USD as the quote currency (EUR/USD, GBP/USD, AUD/USD, NZD/USD) share the same pip value scale:

Standard Lot (1.0)
$10.00 / pip
Mini Lot (0.1)
$1.00 / pip
Micro Lot (0.01)
$0.10 / pip
Nano Lot (0.001)
$0.01

For cross pairs where USD is not the quote currency, pip value changes with the exchange rate. Use the forex pip calculator to get exact pip values for any pair.

Forex Pip Calculator Profit & Loss with Leverage & Risk

Leverage multiplies the pip value impact on your account balance. A trader with $1,000 and 1:100 leverage controls a $100,000 position (1 standard lot). Each pip on EUR/USD moves the account by $10 — that is 1% of the $1,000 balance per pip.

Trading

Forex trading involves buying one currency and selling another. Every forex trade has 3 key numbers the pip calculator determines:

  • Pip value: The dollar amount gained or lost per pip — changes based on currency pair and lot size
  • Position size: Total number of currency units in the trade (micro lot = 1,000, mini lot = 10,000, standard lot = 100,000 units)
  • Profit/Loss: Total pips × pip value = dollar profit or loss on the trade

Forex markets trade 24 hours a day, 5 days a week. Average daily volume exceeds $7.5 trillion (as of 2025), making forex the largest financial market. Currency pairs are quoted to 4 or 5 decimal places (2 or 3 for JPY pairs).

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the most common forex pip calculator questions.

Pip size for a lot = pip size × lot size in units. For EUR/USD, pip size is 0.0001. A standard lot (1.0) has 100,000 units. Pip value = 0.0001 × 100,000 = $10 per pip. A mini lot (0.1) = $1 per pip. A micro lot (0.01) = $0.10 per pip. For JPY pairs, pip size is 0.01, so a standard lot on USD/JPY = 0.01 × 100,000 = ¥1,000 per pip (approximately $6.67 at 149.85 exchange rate).

0.01 pips equals 0.000001 for standard pairs and 0.0001 for JPY pairs. In dollar terms on EUR/USD with 1 standard lot: 0.01 pips = $0.001 (one tenth of a cent). Most brokers quote prices to 5 decimal places, which represents 1/10th of a pip (0.1 pipette).

50 pips is worth $500 with 1 standard lot on EUR/USD, $50 with a mini lot, or $5 with a micro lot. The value depends on 2 factors: lot size and currency pair. On USD/JPY at 149.85, 50 pips with 1 standard lot equals approximately $333.67.

Yes, 100 pips is a large move for most major currency pairs. EUR/USD moves an average of 50-80 pips per day. A 100-pip move represents a price change of 0.0100 (about 0.9%). With 1 standard lot, 100 pips equals $1,000 in profit or loss.

1 pip in forex equals a price movement of 0.0001 for standard pairs and 0.01 for JPY pairs. Pip stands for Percentage in Point. The monetary value of 1 pip depends on lot size: $10 per pip for a standard lot, $1 for a mini lot, and $0.10 for a micro lot on pairs where USD is the quote currency.

Pip size is the decimal increment that represents 1 pip for a given currency pair. There are 3 pip sizes: 0.0001 for most pairs (EUR/USD, GBP/USD), 0.01 for JPY pairs and gold (XAU/USD), and 0.001 for silver (XAG/USD). Pip size is fixed per instrument.

Forex pip value is the monetary amount gained or lost per 1-pip movement. Pip value changes based on 3 factors: currency pair, lot size, and account currency. For EUR/USD with a standard lot and USD account, 1 pip = $10.

$100 can open a 0.01 lot (micro lot) position without leverage, or larger positions with leverage. With 1:100 leverage, $100 covers a 0.1 lot (10,000 units). With 1:500 leverage, $100 covers 0.5 lot (50,000 units). Pip value for 0.01 lot on EUR/USD equals $0.10 per pip.

Pip Value = (Pip Size ÷ Exchange Rate) × Lot Size in Units. For EUR/USD at 1.0906 with 1 standard lot: (0.0001 ÷ 1.0906) × 100,000 = $9.17. For pairs where USD is the quote currency, the formula simplifies to: Pip Value = 0.0001 × Lot Size = $10 per standard lot.
